Always a fun time here... the food is really great too! Did I mention that it is really affordable? We bring the kids, they love to watch the dogs wag their tails at the end. Also an added bonus to the experience is the security guard that was on duty. This man took the time to talk to us and the kids and really made us feel welcome. We have been here twice with the kids and they love it! We get an affordable great meal and entertainment. When the youngest is a little older we will do the buffet with him. ....we have been and it is definitely worth the money.

I've heard of this place through and was told that the buffet is top notch. Well when I arrived to Tampa/St. Pete I was not let down in the least. First off the venue is a greyhound dog racing track, first for me too I know, you see the festivities going on and you proceed inside where the "casino" is and take the elevator to the 6th floor. When you arrive you are greeted with a smile and you are walked to your table (reservations are highly recommended) you then have a waiter who gets your drinks for you. And then, ITS GO TIME. I PIGGED OUT, for the price the all you can eat crab legs is worth it in itself then you add the shrimps prime rib sides full salad bar and other meats you are blown away. The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is because I would've loved if they had a dessert bar too included but you can't have it all lol but I was VERY SATISFIED

We were eating dinner at a different restaurant in Tampa when the subject of best burger was brought up. We all named our favorite, and my sister-in-law went with this place: Derby Lanes. "Really?" I said. "Yes, I've gone there a few times for burgers. They're REALLY good" she replied. I tucked the conversation away for future reference not knowing I would tap into it again in the immediate future. So we finished drinks, appetizers, main courses and desserts at the place we were at. We took Gandy back, and the night was still young. What do we happen upon? Derby Lanes. I've driven past before, but all I knew about it was that it was a dog track and a scene from Oceans Eleven had been filmed there. I now had new information, however: they MAY have the best burger in town. I didn't care about the fact that I had just eaten. "Pull in" I suggested/commanded. The following review is based upon the burger only. I have gambled before, on cards mainly. I don't like putting money down on something I have absolutely no control over however, like dogs. Not to get all animal lover, but I've also seen far too many greyhounds discarded after their racing career is over. So I went into the Derby Lounge and I ordered their Derby Burger, with cheese, medium rare. I also ordered a bourbon and coke. (I totally get the irony that I'm an animal lover ordering a dead cow by the way) The bartender was personable and informed me that the cook was an ex-navy cook that had prepared meals for both President Clinton and President Bush. I guess presidents aren't Yelpers. Although good, not life changing. The patty was large in circumference, but thin. It was cooked medium rare, but there was no wow factor. I've simply eaten way too many burgers to rate this beyond a three. The fries were mediocre and went unfinished. Gone are the days of people dressing up in suits to go to the track with their family and have fine dining. Not sure how this place is in the daytime, but after ten (when I went) it was a bit creepy and I would not bring my family here. The burger was good, but in no way the best in Pinellas County.

Not sure why anybody would call this a family place and actually bring children here. A typical track filled with degenerates gambling away what little money they have. Drinks served in plastic glasses, smells awful, not exactly clean. the restaurant is ok, nice layout, but I certainly wouldn't go there for that.

Dead, everything was closed. No buffet, and when we went to the 4th floor dining the staff wouldn't even acknowledge us. Don't bother going here.

Great place for a family to go and enjoy a couple of hours! My four year old enjoyed looking at the dogs get weighed in.. If you are looking for something to do not a bad place to go

I drove into the parking lot hearing the dogs crying from their kennels and had to turn around and leave. I could not stomach going to dinner here knowing that the money this godless place makes goes towards making man's best friend suffer.

I think it's time to retire any kind of promotion of animal abuse in an establishment such as this. These dogs are capable of doing much more than being slaves of entertainment then killed before they are more than a couple of years old. Kinda sickens me to know people pay to go to places like this then have the conscious to go home to their own pets and claim to love them.

Always enjoy myself at Derby Lane. It's entertaining, relatively cheap, and you may even leave with more than you brought if you are lucky! Food wise, I have never tried the buffet but have heard good things. Other than that, they have basics like hotdogs, chili, popcorn, etc. They will also have specials each time like a BBQ sandwich or beenie weenies (seriously). $2 for a decent BBQ sandwich is a bargain. Pitcher of beer is about $10-11 from the upper bar where we usually grab our own section on the balcony. The only complaint I have about this place are the employees. They are the saddest bunch of old folks in the Tampa Bay area. They all seem to hate life and the fact you are there providing them a job. If you get a smile, consider yourself lucky.

I love Derby Lane, but I do miss the band that they used to have out next to the odds board. I didn't cash a single ticket on my most recent visit, but still had a good time. Wish they didn't charge so much for an aluminum bottle of Bud, though.

Derby Lane is one of the nicest Greyhound dog tracks I have ever been too. The facility is very well kept. I went for the Saturday matinee races. Admition was free. Minimum bets start at $1.00. Domestic drafts are $2.00 and bottled beer $3.00 in the Poker Room during Happy Hour until 4:00pm. There are various places to get food but I did not explore that option this time because I was focused on winning. Maybe I should have though because I am sure I could have got a steak dinner for 2 with the money that I lost. But not complaining, I did not go home a loser. No Sir! I placed a $2.00 bet on one dog to show and he did!! When I won that $2.80 I knew it was time to cash out while I was ahead! ;)

Really enjoyed going to this poker room. Lots of cash games at different stakes to choose from as well as massive tournaments played daily.

Had a blast while visiting my parents. Rainy night, but didn't stop us from watching them run. Wasn't crowded on Wednesday night. Concession counter lady incredibly friendly. Great nightly meal specials. Can sit inside in the air conditioning and watch/bet other events also, or sit outside in box seats or down close by the track. Good time.

Unlike other racetracks I've been to, this is a nice place for families and children as well. it's free to go in, or you can pay $1.25 for a program to know more about each race. There are about 12 races a day. Gates open at 6:30p and first race is at 7:30p. The greyhounds are paraded by their leash holders and they're amazing to watch as they race around the track, which is very well groomed. The boards are well run, and there's a small food bar. The poker room has mostly older people, and I did not check out the buffet.

An outstanding buffet, beer and desserts...along with racing and hopelessly betting on a win??? What could be better?! The nicest track I have been to by far. Club level is worth every penny because of the food and service.

I love this place. Try to go twice a month. So cool to see the dogs racing up close and live. They have inside seating and outside stands too. The food & service is excellent if you sit on the 4th floor. Our usual waitress is Courtney who is the best server there in my opinion. Always attentive to my needs and checks back frequently throughout the day to make sure I don't need anything else. I have tried the Matinee buffet twice and did not find it to be all that impressive. Although the seating is very nice in this area, the service certainly was not what I am used to when I sit on the 4th floor and have Courtney. The staff on the 6th floor doesn't seem to care as much. They do not check back in with you to see if you need anything. You have to flag them down. One waiter stayed looking at his cell phone stashed on his cart most of the time so it was impossible to get his attention when I needed anything. Overall if I stay on the 4th floor, I love it!
